Public Speaking Can Be Scary

ree

When I fist published my Book "My Limitless Mind" I went on a publicity Tour and I thought that I was going to sign a few books. I remember when I got to my first location I am sitting getting ready to sign when the person from the airport came over to me and said "Your next."

As you could imagine. I had no idea what she was talking about and the next thing I knew I was getting pushed out of a curtain and onto a stage where what felt like thousands of people were staring at me.

At first I was scared because I had no idea what was expected from me then I heard them introducing me as the author of my book and asked to come up and introduced myself.

I remember walking up to the stage and fumbling with the microphone as I barely gasped my name. The crowd was silent. I think that it was because they were trying to hear this guy that no one knows explain what he was doing on stage and why they should listen to me.

After introducing myself, My mind went into a fury of thoughts then one hit me. Here I am on stage getting thrown into the deep end of the pool without a life preserver. I am where I was suppose to be and I began with a statement that made people laugh.

"Hi, I am not a professional speaker so you will hear a lot of umms, and I dunno, and most likely a few curse words. But what do you expect, I just found out two seconds ago that I was coming up here to talk to all of you wonderous people and here I am."

They liked the honesty and many laughed. Probably because they were making fun of me but I was doing a good job at doing that myself. What I learned that day is that not everyone will be able to go up on stage and just start talking. I was an exception. But what I did from that point on is keep notes in my phone so that if ever that happens again I have something to go on.

Now I am not saying that you will become a Public speaker but if you choose to do something that will bring you public attention get use to talking. Start with a few people and work yourself up. It is not something everyone can do. Heck I do not even like doing it but I always do what I can to be prepared for it.

Just because you may not be good at something does not mean that if you practice it long enough that you will continue to fail. Everyone fails and what makes a person great is if through their failure they get back up and try again until they succeed.

Failure is a much better teacher then success. Without failure you cannot grow to become the best person you were meant to be. So go out fail a few times and you will succeed in the long run.
